A short biography
OLEG NEISHTADT

I was born to two dissident-artists
in the capitol of socialism triumphant –
Moscow, USSR. They taught me
to draw and to look at life with honesty
and a sense of humor. Doing both
in the Soviet Union at the time was
a dangerous thing.

We emigrated to the USA. I grew up
in the capitol of capital, New York,
with Italians, Hispanics, Blacks,
as well as everyone else that inhabited
the rotting and splendid, sinister and
shining capital of the world.
That money isn't free even in the land
of the free became very clear very fast,
so at the age of 13, I went to work
as a paperboy, the first of my many
jobs. It taught me a lot, especially the
importance of patience and tenacity.
I studied illustration, painting and
advertising in High School of Art and
Design and then painting, graphic
design and art history in The Cooper
Union, both in New York.

From immigrant poor to living the
American Dream was my New York.
I became a married yuppie doing
graphic design for various clients with
partial success: monetary satisfaction –
great, spiritual satisfaction – none.
When I woke up, I understood that
I couldn't escape my destiny – I had
to paint. Knowing that Art usually
rhymes with Poor I went where
everyone always went to do both.
I was right – in Paris, France, I lost my
money, my wife, 10 kilos and a lot
of fear. But bohemian Paris also meant:
8 apartments, 85 works of art,
15 exhibitions, 1 new language,
French papers, payment of rent
each month (that was tough) and
even running an art gallery
in the Latin Quarter.

4 years later I was so tired I had
nothing to say. I left bohemian Paris
to look for my self in Moscow.
Instead I found: 1 wife; 4 children;
1 more language; and different cities,
New York > Paris > Rome > Paris >
Miami Beach.

Then I lost my job of husband and
father, but found: a new city, Berlin;
the need to paint again – painted;
and the need to write – wrote.
I'm now doing both wherever
and whenever I can.

To be continued…

(High School of Art and Design),
(The Cooper Union).

я нашел: 1 жену; 4 детей; еще 1 язык;

писать картины – продолжил;
